Public anger as Dee Forbes not ‘fit or able’ to engage via video link or in person with committee

Former RTÉ director general Dee Forbes’s attorney has declared that her client is neither “fit or able” to participate in discussions with the Oireachtas Committee on Media, reports RTE.

Her attorney wrote a brief letter to the committee stating that Ms. Forbes is receiving “active medical care” and that “further medical information” to support her claim that she is “unfit to participate in any processes at this time can be provided with the requirement that it be kept confidential” is available.

The committee wrote to Ms. Forbes on Friday, February 23rd, asking her to communicate with members via video connection, written statement, or in-person.

The solicitor “sought instructions” from their client after receiving the committee’s letter, reports RTE.

“Unfit to be involved in any process even with the offer of video links/breaks/written evidence etc.” is what Ms. Forbes’ attorney told the committee in the letter.

“If you require sight of further medical information on a strictly confidential basis please let us know”, they said, reports RTE.

It saddens committee chair Niamh Smyth that Ms. Forbes will not be able to interact with members.

She clarified that there would be “unfinished business” but that the committee would still go on and complete writing its report, reports RTE.
