Public express shock and disgust at alleged rapist taxi driver being granted bail against the advice of the Gardai

People have taken to social media to express their shock, disgust and downright disbelief that a foreign national who is charged with two counts of rape and two counts of sexual assault against an Irish woman in her 20’s has been granted bail.

People have made references to cases such as shoplifting, where the accused was denied bail.

The man who was only apprehended on Monday, August 26th after what Gardai describe as a “high profile media campaign” was in hiding since the alleged crime took place on the night of December 9th, 2018.

The man fled Ireland after the alleged rape and sexual assault but returned after a media campaign to bring him to justice.

The presiding judge in the case made the decision to grant the man bail over the objections of the Gardai who state that he poses a significant flight risk. The judge set the alleged rapists bail at just €6,000.

In reaction many members of the public have taken to their social media accounts to ponder as to why the judge would be so lenient in this particular case.

People have drawn parallels with the case of Mansoor Uddin (41), another foreign national taxi driver in Dublin who sexually assaulted three young women on two separate occasions.

The presiding judge in this case, who happened to be a woman, again showed astounding leniency, over ruling the Gardai and allowing the Pakistani national to continue to operate his taxi while remanded on bail under the farcical conditions that “no women be allowed in the front seat”.

This has left many people to speculate, would judges grant such leniency is these two men were Irish.
