Islamic State have celebrated the 19th anniversary of the Twin Towers attacks, declaring themselves the ‘inheritors’ of the 9/11 mission.
According to the SITE, who monitor IS online activity, the group hailed the brutal terror attack that took the lives of 3000 civilians as a ‘pivotal moment for Islam’ in their Haba propaganda newspaper. With their heartland in Syria and Iraq shrinking, the group are focusing their attention on digital radicalism to encourage terror attacks in the West.
The group also reportedly criticised Al-Qaeda, the organisation behind 9/11, for focusing too heavily on the USA as their enemy. Islamic State usually target Europe in their western actions, recruiting new members from across the continent through online propaganda.
They went on to describe Covid-19 as ‘God’s little soldier’ who called the pandemic a ‘divine punishment of the West’ according to the Mirror.
