Pure evil: Migrant Puska begins life in prison for murder of Ashling Murphy

Jozef Puska was jailed for life on January 12, 2022, for the murder of Ashling Murphy in Tullamore.

Judge Tony Hunt handed down the sentence, which he described as “wholly deserved”, following a victim impact statement from the Murphy family and Ashling’s partner Ryan Casey.

He said he did not have the power to impose a minimum sentence and if he had the power, he should consider the full life sentence in the case.

The judge said Puskar’s testimony was “indescribable” and “the one thing we don’t know about this case is the why,” reports RTE.

Judge Hunt concluded by saying, “very well, you may take him away,” after which six correctional officers escorted Puska to the cell area.

Puska (33), of Linally Grove, Mucklagh, Co Offaly, was last week found guilty of murdering Ms Murphy, 23, by a jury of nine men and three women.

A jury has found a Slovakian father of five guilty of killing an elementary school teacher by accidentally stabbing him while walking along the Grand Canal last year.

She was stabbed 11 times.

Puska did not know Miss Murphy, they had never met and they had no relationship, reports RTE.
