Putin says Trump wants to broker a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine

Russia has stated that it was attempting to exacerbate the situation and had observed that the circle of US president-elect Donald Trump was discussing a possible peace plan for Ukraine, while the existing US government led by Joe Biden was not, reports RTE.

After being asked to comment on an interview that Mr. Trump’s choice for national security advisor, Mike Waltz, gave to Fox News yesterday, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov offered his comments.

Mr. Waltz stated that the battle had to be brought “to a responsible end” and that Mr. Trump had been “very concerned” about combat between Russia and Ukraine being worse, reports RTE.

Mr. Waltz pointed out that North Korea and Iran were involved in the conflict, that Russia had used a hypersonic ballistic missile against Ukraine, that some Western nations had allowed Ukraine to fire its missiles deep into Russia, and that South Korea was thinking about joining the fray.

According to Mr. Peskov, President Vladimir Putin has said time and again that Russia is prepared to engage in conversation over Ukraine, and the Kremlin has taken notice of the remarks.

In order to begin peace negotiations, Mr. Putin stated in June that Ukraine must give up its aspirations to join NATO and turn over all four of the provinces that Moscow claims, reports RTE.

According to Ukrainian officials, Russian soldiers assaulted industrial sites in the southeast Zaporizhzhia region and energy infrastructure in the southern Ukrainian city of Mykolaiv overnight, reports RTE.

As of this morning, Mykolaiv Governor Vitaliy Kim said on the Telegram messaging app that engineers had restored electricity to the majority of customers who had been without power in the wake of the attack.

The governor stated that there were no deaths and that two drones were shot down over the area by the air defence, reports RTE.

Ivan Fedorov, the regional governor, said on national television that Russia had also sent “tens of drones” to assault Zaporizhzhia overnight.

A residential complex and many industrial facilities were damaged, and one kid was hurt in the incident, reports RTE.
