Queen Elizabeth helps her staff clear bats from her Balmoral estate

Bat-keeping may not be listed as one of the normal duties for the Royal Family but that hasn’t stopped the Queen from helping her staff clear bats from the estate at Balmoral.

The bats, which are said to be nesting in the ballroom at Balmoral, must be cleared out and reports suggest that the Queen likes to join in with helping to chase them out using butterfly nets or cheering on the staff who are doing the chasing. The bats are then released into the wild although it’s said they usually fly back in so that the whole process has to start all over again.

While it might be difficult to imagine bats being chased away in butterfly nets, there’s no doubt that they would enjoy nesting near the roof of a huge room like the ballroom in a royal palace.
