Real fear is growing in Fine Gael in Co Meath that Helen McEntee may lose her own seat in the election

Insiders in Fine Gael are now genuinely concerned that Helen McEntee’s own seat could be in real trouble in general election.

People in Navan are just as fed up as anyone with the level of crime in Ireland in 2024.

There are claims that Helen McEntee got a top job in Fine Gael to try and boost her own chances of retaining her seat in Co Meath in the upcoming general election.

Certain sources are claiming that locals in Meath are sick and tired of McEntee and that she’ll be thrown out of office after the election.

Following Heather Humphreys’ unexpected resignation, Fine Gael’s new deputy leader is Minister for Justice Helen McEntee, reports Breaking News.

Simon Harris, the leader of Taoiseach and Fine Gael, made the appointment after Ms. Humphreys said she would not be running in the upcoming election.

Time has caught up with her, and she does not believe she could devote the time and dedication needed for the position, according to Minister for Social Protection Ms. Humphreys, who cites health reasons for her decision.

Joining the long list of TDs elected for Fine Gael in 2020 who will not run for office is the 64-year-old Cavan and Monaghan representative, reports Breaking News.

Senior leaders including former tánaiste Simon Coveney and taoiseach Leo Varadkar are part of this group.

“Politicians are human too; we give all we can for as long as we can but time catches up on us all. As I get older, my health and energy levels are not what they were and I know going forward that I would not be able to give the job the time and commitment it deserves,” Ms Humphreys said in a statement on Saturday evening, reports Breaking News.

“Anyone who knows Heather knows her entire political career has been driven by a sense of decency, fairness and compassion. She is a proud, mischievous Monaghan woman with a loud laugh and a heart of gold,” Mr Haris said.

Ms. Humphreys will continue to serve as Minister of Social Protection and Rural Affairs until the general election, according to Mr. Harris.

He went on to say of Ms McEntee’s nomination as deputy leader: “Helen is deeply rooted in the Fine Gael principles of equality and opportunity. She is a diligent, hardworking colleague and someone I know a long time. Helen is respected by our party membership right across the country. I really look forward to working closely with her in the time ahead,” reports Breaking News.
