The Irish public will be once again be asked to vote in order to remove a clause from the constitution.
In a new referendum the Irish public will be asked to remove the mandatory waiting period for divorce.
Under the current law, couples who wish to legally separate must live apart for four years before they are granted a divorce.
It is expected that Irish voters will be asked to vote on the topic in May at the same time as the local and European elections.
If passed, the Oireachtas will then be handed the duty of drafting a new text that will reduce the waiting period.
Previous reports have suggested that the Government is looking to cut the overall separation period requirement to two years.
