The issue regarding the future of water charges has been sorted once and for all today as new legislation that will everyone who paid recieve a refund was passed this afternoon.
In what has been described as a victory for the people the Water Services Bill was overwhelmingly passed in the Dail with TD’s voting 71 to 39 in favour of accepting the legislation.
Although refunds will be issued it will be highly unlikely that everyone will receive them before Christmas as the delay in passing the motion has made it almost impossible for Irish Water to send out over 350,000 cheques before December 25th.
It is expected that those who paid the controversial charges will recieve their refund in the new year as the Bill has yet to be formally approve in the Seanad within the coming weeks ahead.
It is expected the issue of the charges which seen a number of protests held in recent being put to bed for the foreseeable future as a number of opposition parties within the Dail have refused to support the charges which were brought in under the Fine Gael/Labour led Government back in 2014.
