There should be good news for hundreds of thousands homeowners later today as the Government are set to announce plans that will see water charge payments being refunded to the public.
According to RTE News the Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government Eoghan Murphy will officially present documents before the Dail this morning that will outline details and the process of how the charges will be re-payed over the coming weeks.
The latest announcement which will surely be welcomed by many residents across the country comes after a report was published earlier this year by an Oireachtas committee which recommended the refunding of charges.
It is believed the total cost of refunds will amount to €178m, although the Government say the cost will not affect spending in next year’s budget as the funding will come from money that was not spent by other Departments.
They also say that all refunds will be issued by the end of the year.
