Regency Hotel shooting: Up to six men involved in the raid

Gardai are today dealing with the theory that a six-man team carried out the attack on the Regency Hotel in Drumcondra, Dublin, yesterday afternoon.

Three men clad in police-style uniforms and armed with assault rifles entered the premises and opened fire, killing one and leaving two seriously injured.

The fatality was 32-year-old David Byrne, an associate of the Kinahan crime gang.

Gardai believe that while the firing team entered the hotel, two others acted as lookouts, and the last one waited at the wheel of a Ford Transit van used as the getaway vehicle. This van was later found burnt-out in the Charlemont estate in nearby Marino.

Gardai are now appealing for witnesses, and anyone with information regarding the Ford Transit vehicle, to come forward and contact Ballymun station at 01 666 4400, or the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111.
