This is the second day in a row that Minister for the Environment Alan Kelly has come out fighting and wielding the mighty sword of the law, emblazoned with the Irish Water crest.

The company now says that unless all households register by June 30, they will not get the €100 so-called ‘water conservation grant.’

Minister for the Environment Alan Kelly has stated that families now have three months to register their details or else.

It is worth noting that this is the second deadline set for registration. The first one came and went in February last without any penalties for customers.

The minister said: “I can confirm this evening that the 30th of June 2015 will be the deadline for registering with Irish Water in order to be eligible for receipt of the Water Conservation Grant this year.

“If a household has not registered by this date, it will not be able to receive this €100 grant from the Department of Social Protection from September 2015.

“The Department of Social Protection will be communicating separately with households from July onwards in this regard; the final date of 30 June for 2015 payments has been chosen taking account of the fact that there will be some changes in residency up to that point.

“More details will follow throughout the month of April.”
