
After President Donald Trump yelled at Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in a furious White House outburst, accusing him of not wanting to make peace with Russia, Zelensky stated that his relationship with the United States might still be restored, reports RTE.
In a Fox News interview, Mr. Zelensky responded, “Of course,” when asked if the relationship with Mr. Trump could be saved.
He stated that US-Ukrainian relations are about “more than two presidents,” and that Ukraine urgently needs US assistance in its conflict with Russia’s much larger and more powerful military, reports RTE.
“It will be difficult without your support,” Mr Zelensky said, reports RTE.
Hours after the historic Oval Office scenario in which the United States’ years-long strategy of providing substantial backing for Ukraine’s battle against the Russian invasion came to an abrupt end in a yelling match, Mr. Zelensky offered an olive branch.
After Mr. Zelensky was forced to depart the White House early and without signing a minerals-sharing agreement that was thought to be essential to a future peace mediated by the United States, European leaders rushed to express their support for Ukraine, reports RTE.
Mr. Trump and his vice president, JD Vance, yelled at Mr. Zelensky throughout the altercation, which was broadcast in front of the US and worldwide media, accusing him of not being “thankful” and rejecting their suggested terms for a truce.
“You don’t have the cards right now,” Mr Trump said. “You’re either going to make a deal or we’re out, and if we’re out, you’ll fight it out and I don’t think it’s going to be pretty,” reports RTE.
Shortly after Mr. Zelensky left, Mr. Trump wrote on social media that “he can come back when he is ready for peace.”
According to the president, Mr. Zelensky was “overplaying his hand” and ought to consent to a ceasefire “immediately.”
However, Mr. Zelensky “I’m not sure that we did something bad” and declined to offer an apology, reports RTE.
However, he expressed his wish that the conversation had not happened in front of reporters.
Later, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio demanded on CNN that Mr. Zelensky “apologise for wasting our time.”
US partners in Europe hurried to back Mr. Zelensky because they were already concerned that Mr. Trump would pressure Ukraine to essentially deliver the victory to Russian President Vladimir Putin, r r
“You are not alone,” remarked Donald Tusk, the prime minister of Poland.
Following the disagreement, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who had returned from his own trip to the White House, said he had phone conversations with both Mr. Trump and Mr. Zelensky and pledged “unwavering support” for Ukraine, reports RTE.
