The 1916 Relatives Association will honour their family members who fought in the uprising almost a century ago.
The ceremony will take place at the Garden of Remembrance on Parnell Square, starting at 2pm. A wreath will be laid, and there will also be a poetry recital.
Spokesperson Donna Cooney said that “There’ll be relatives of ordinary people that took part – obviously some of the relatives of the signatories will be there as well. We like to be inclusive – it’s all relatives, those people that took part who wouldn’t be well known [except] in the history of their own family … rank-and–file ordinary people who took part.”
A parade to mark the Easter Rising is also taking place in Dublin city centre this afternoon.The socialist republican party Eirigi will march from Townsend Street to Liberty Hall from 4pm.
