The 1916 Relatives Association will honour their family members who fought in the uprising almost a century ago.

The ceremony will take place at the Garden of Remembrance on Parnell Square, starting at 2pm. A wreath will be laid, and there will also be a poetry recital.

Spokesperson Donna Cooney said that “There’ll be relatives of ordinary people that took part – obviously some of the relatives of the signatories will be there as well. We like to be inclusive – it’s all relatives, those people that took part who wouldn’t be well known [except] in the history of their own family … rank-and–file ordinary people who took part.”

A parade to mark the Easter Rising is also taking place in Dublin city centre this afternoon. The socialist republican party Eirigi will march from Townsend Street to Liberty Hall from 4pm.
