One of the country’s newest political parties Renua Ireland believes that public sector workers should only receive bonuses if they perform well.
It is understood that the newly forged political party also wants public sector pay increases scrapped as part of their new policy on public sector reform. The news which will most likely not be welcomed by many was broken by Party leader Lucinda Creighton who claims that it is “not credible” that 99% of civil servants can claim to be high-performing. Ms Creighton also believes that public sector unions should not be able to block such a plan.
Ms Creighton told reporters: “Well, who’s running the country? Is it the citizens? Is it the people that they elect? Or is it unaccountable trade unions? “We’ve seen the farce in recent years of so-called performance reviews in the public service where 99.9% of public servants are deemed to excel at their job. She added: “That, I think, everybody would accept is nonsense.”
