Enda Kenny has announced that he doesn’t want “a statue in his honour or to glorify him”

In a heated exchange in the Dail yesterday between the Taoiseach and Sinn Fein’s Pearse Doherty, Enda Kenny said that he doesn’t want a statue built that will honour him or glorify him.

The bizarre comments came after the Taoiseach was asked to explain yet again his claim that at one point, he was told an Army would be surrounding ATM machines when people were extracting money.

The claim is refuted by Patrick Honohan, the Governor of the Central bank at the time Kenny said he was told this would happen.

At Leaders’ Questions yesterday, Pearse Doherty said Kenny had claimed that it was Honohan’s estimation that the country had 48 hours before capital controls on banks would have to be implemented.

Doherty said:
“Now Taoiseach, before we start erecting statues in your glory, can you finally clarify matters?”

Kenny responded with:
“There will be no statues to my glory or otherwise. If that’s where your interest lies, then don’t talk to me please.”

Doherty then claimed the Taoiseach was “spoofing” to which kenny didn’t respond.
