In another example of the hysteria currently gripping the world, false reports of gunfire sparked a major security alert at New York’s JFK airport yesterday evening.
Local police forces evacuated Terminal 8 at around 9.30pm local time on Sunday (2.30am BST Monday), as a precautionary measure.
A short time later, Terminal 1 was also evacuated, with thousands of people left standing outside.
Authorities then confirmed that no weapons had been discharged at the facility, and that it was a false alarm.
