Researchers in a Cambridge University claim that people who had 10 or more sexual partners have a higher risk of getting cancer

Men and women who have had 10 or more sexual partners are significantly more likely to develop cancer due to increased risk of sexually transmitted diseases and the fact that that promiscuous people generally drink and smoke more than those in monogamous relationships study finds.

Researchers from Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge, collected data from nearly 6,000 men and women over the age of 50 and found that among men, the cancer rates for those who had 10 of sexual partners was 69% higher while for woman it was shockingly almost double.

Women who have had 10 or more sexual partners were 91% more likely to develop cancer than those who had fewer sexual partners over their lifetime up to 50.

Speaking to the Mail Online Dr Lee Smith, an Anglia Ruskin University expert and the author of the study said:

“We expected there to be an association between number of sexual partners and cancer risk as previous research has shown that specific STIs may lead to several cancers.
Indeed, a higher number of sexual partners means greater potential exposure to STIs. It is interesting that the risk is higher in women when compared to men.”

While several types of STDs have been linked to developing cancer the study also found that those with more sexual partners were more likely to be smokers and to drink frequently, both of which are major factors in developing cancer.
