“Respect our culture” – Pavee Point wins international award for work with minorities

Representatives of the Pavee Point Traveler and the Roma Centre received an international award in The Hague for their work with minorities.

The Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the Government of the Netherlands presented Co-Director Martin Collins and President Anastasia Crickley with the Max van der Stoel Award.

The award recognises Pavee Point’s efforts to strengthen the inclusion of Irish society by defending and protecting the rights of travelers and Roma communities.

Pavee Point began work in 1985.

The OSCE noted that the Roma and nomadic communities in Ireland have had a long history of multiple and intersectional discrimination and that both communities face poverty, unemployment, lack of education, reduced life expectancy, cultural prejudice and social stereotypes.
