The latest figures released by the Central Bank show that 1 out of every 10 family homes are in mortgage arrears.
More than 76,400 householders are behind in their home loan repayments and that they are struggling to meet ends meet, according to the Central Bank.
More than three quarters of the 76,400 homes are in long term mortgage arrears by being more than three months behind in their payments.
Other figures show that almost 121,000 mortgages have been renegotiated to make them more affordable and thus moving on a tracker mortgage rate.
