Road Safety Authority calls on predestinations on rural roads to wear high visibility reflective gear in order to prevent a tragedy

The Road Safety Authority have recently begun an awareness campaign to advise motorists and predestinations to make small changes to their road habits in order to save lives this Christmas.

The new campaign comes as the national roads authority is advising people to wear high visibility reflective gear to make themselves more visible to motorists. The call comes as Irish roads has tragically experienced 131 deaths so far this year. The campaign has been backed by the daughter of a man who tragically died 17 months ago after he was hit by her boyfriend’s car on a rural road in Mayo.

The woman named Maggie Bonner has called for motorists to be more alert, and for predestinations to wear the high visibility gear as it will help save lives. Ms Bonner told reporters the tragic story of her father’s passing saying that her father wasn’t wearing reflective gear, and Maggie says because of this a regular evening became a nightmare.

Ms Bonner further explained: “It was very difficult because when I came into the scene, it was from a phone call that Michael rang me and he told me he had ran over someone on the road and I needed to get in there fast.” “So I got my brother to bring me in and I was there comforting him and it wasn’t until several hours later when it started getting bright that I realised it was my own dad laying there on the ground.” “That’s when the nightmare unveiled itself.”
