Gardaí and emergency services were called to the scene of a car accident on a local road in Knockleigh, Belgooly, Co Cork, just after midnight.
The 19-yr-old driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later. It is understood that he was the only person in the car.
His body was taken to the morgue at Cork University Hospital, where an autopsy is being carried out.
The road remains closed to traffic and the site is being investigated by Garda forensic investigators. Local detours have been put in place.
