Ferencvaros’ Europa League loss to Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday night has made Robbie Keane’s most recent managerial venture far from ideal, reports The Mirror.
Keane took over in early January, but his first game as manager was a difficult match versus the 2022 champions because the Hungarian league was on holiday.
Hugo Ekitike and Can Uzun both scored goals early in the second half as Ferencvaros defeated 2-0 that evening, reports The Mirror.

Although Keane has pledged to bring thrilling, hard-pressing football to the team vying for the Hungarian league title for the eighth time in a row, the harsh test against Frankfurt proved to be too soon.
Keane’s team had only 32% of the possession during the day and only managed one shot, none of which was on goal, reports The Mirror.
Given that the two teams’ salary budgets differed, Keane did caution before the game about the challenge of the task at hand.
‘We’re playing against a team capable of extremely fast football and has a much bigger budget. It’s a footballer’s dream to play in such matches in front of 50,000 people. At such times, I wish I could play again. As a coach, it’s also a huge motivation to lead my team in such a match. We have to play with a different mindset on the European stage than in the Hungarian championship,’ reports The Mirror.
Since leaving Maccabi Tel Aviv, this is Keane’s first managerial position. After the team won the Israeli League at the end of the 2023–24 season, Keane left the position.
