Roderic O’Gorman said he’ll virtually meet concerned residents in Clare or if they come do Dublin – but he won’t go to Clare to meet them

The Minister for Integration Roderic O’Gorman said he will meet concerned residents from Co Clare if they come to Dublin or meet online only.

O’Gorman will not travel to Co Clare to meet the concerned residents.

Four asylum seekers left the accommodation provided for them in Co Clare and local people blocked access routes to the accommodation.

A group of 34 asylum seekers were accommodated in three cottages on the grounds of the Magowna House Hotel in Ennis on Monday night, reports The Mirror.

However, local protesters then blocked the access roads to the site with tractors, and a silage hoop was blocked at another gate.

On Tuesday, some asylum seekers expressed their concerns about the current situation.

One of the tractor drivers, who declined to be named, said locals were concerned about fire safety and sanitation at the site.

He said they hoped another bus would arrive and the asylum seekers would be relocated “underhandedly”.

“So we stopped the roads, we blocked the roads so a second bus could not get in,” reports The Mirror.

The protesters said they would not prevent an asylum seeker from leaving the country. The people who blocked access to the site put in some media and said they would allow food deliveries.

Joe O’Brien, Secretary of State for Community Development, said the hotel does not have a fire safety certificate but there are no problems with fire safety or sanitation at the houses.

“I just ask people to step down the blockade, I think it is done on the basis of a misunderstanding of what’s happened,” reports The Mirror.
