RTÉ intends to launch its Voluntary Exit Programme (VEP) following the Easter holiday, with payments capped at €300,000, according to the broadcaster’s HR Director, reports RTE.

In an email sent to staff this afternoon, Eimear Cusack provided additional details about the upcoming scheme.

She stated that RTÉ is aiming to begin the VEP after the Easter break, possibly on Wednesday 23 April, depending on the completion of all required documentation, reports RTE.

The programme will be open for a period of four weeks and includes two options: Voluntary Severance, for staff under the age of 55, and Voluntary Early Retirement, for those aged 55 and older.

Employees must have completed at least two years of continuous service to be eligible to apply, reports RTE.

Ms Cusack also confirmed that members of RTÉ’s Leadership Team will not be permitted to apply, as had already been outlined by Director General Kevin Bakhurst.

She added that any employee whose application is accepted under the scheme will leave the organisation this year, with a final exit date no later than 31 December 2025. The terms will follow those of the 2017 and 2021 schemes and include a €300,000 cap on exit payments, reports RTE.

The Government approved RTÉ’s redundancy plan on 28 March.

This move is part of a five-year strategy introduced in 2023, in which the broadcaster detailed plans to cut staff numbers by as many as 400, reports RTE.
