According to a plan submitted to the government, RTÉ plans to reduce its workforce by up to 400 by 2028 through voluntary redundancies, reports RTE.

The cost of this program is estimated at EUR 40 million.

The aim is to quickly make 40 staff redundant and it will be funded from land already sold on the RTÉ campus.

The strategic plan predicts that RTÉ will reduce the salaries of its top presenters and maintain the salary cap for 2023.

The plan plans to further reduce operating costs by approximately 10 million euros next year, reports RTE.

The plan will prioritize advanced technology and live and online content.

Some services will be reduced and production will increase in Cork and other areas in the coming years.

The plan foresees a direct and immediate impact on services by closing the RTÉ 1 +1 and RTÉ 2 +1 television channels.

More content will be produced by the independent sector and services such as RTÉ Radio 1 Extra, RTÉ Pulse and RTÉ 2XM may be withdrawn, reports RTE.
