Director General Kevin Bakhurst has confirmed that RTÉ has stopped paying Ryan Tubridy when he does not appear on the airwaves, reports The Mirror.
Mr Tubridy disputed earlier this week that the broadcaster was still paying him.
He has not been on air since June 23 after it was revealed his salary was announced to be €345,000 over five years.
Mr Tubridy announced on March 16 that he was resigning from The Late Late Show. Since his contract was for both television and radio work, new arrangements and pay were negotiated.
This was put on hold by RTÉ and they said they would continue to pay him
Mr Bakhurst, who took over as Director General on Monday, has now confirmed that this is no longer the case.
Mr Bakhurst said: “As I understand it, the latest invoice came in this week. And my advice is we need to we need to decide exactly what we’re paying him because he’s not doing his past duties anymore,” reports The Mirror.
RTE has since clarified via a spokesperson: “For clarification, while Kevin Bakhurst stated in today’s meeting that he had seen the invoice this week, the invoice was received by RTÉ in June,” reports The Mirror.
“He’s not getting paid at the moment, as of the last invoice. We have to agree the level of that. As I said earlier, it’s a highly unsatisfactory place to be in but we need to resume discussions about that so that he’s paid fairly,” Mr Bakhurst told Fine Gael’s Alan Dillion, reports The Mirror.
