The second round of talks between Russia and Ukraine has led to an agreement on humanitarian corridors where temporary ceasefires will be in place allowing civilians to escape combat zones.

“The parties have reached an understanding on the joint establishment of humanitarian corridors with a temporary ceasefire. Russia and Ukraine will soon create channels of communication and cooperation to organize these corridors,” Ukrainian presidential aide Mikhail Podolyak said Russia Today reports.

The head of the Russian delegation, Vladimir Medinsky confirmed the development, stating that the two sides had solved the “main issue” of saving the lives of civilians. The negotiators also found common ground on other outstanding matters, namely military and humanitarian issues, and future political reconciliation, he added.

These agreements have kindled hope for peace but French President Emmanuel Macron has said that after a phone call with President Putin the “worst is yet to come” as the Russian leader insist the military operation in Ukraine would continue until its objectives are achieved.
