Russia has dismissed reports that Vladimir Putin is planning to step down due to poor health as ‘complete nonsense’.
A Kremlin spokesman told reporters that the Russian President is in ‘excellent health’ and is ‘not going to resign’. This follows global speculation caused by the Sun newspaper, who cited ‘Moscow sources’ who feared Putin ‘has possible symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease’.
Suspicions were further aroused as Russian MPs are considering a new bill granting lifelong immunity from prosecution to former presidents, implying that Putin may be close to retirement. The 68 year old former KGB spy has led Russia since 2000.
