Several international agencies are attempting to corroborate reports that a tier one ISIS militant was killed in a Russian airstrike in Syria on May 28 last.
Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is thought to have died after a precision strike carried out by a Russian Su-35 jet in the ISIS stronghold of Raqqa, Syria. The strike targeted a meeting of top personnel.
45-year-old al-Baghdadi, who had spent time in US custody back in 2005, is thought to be the leader of ISIS forces in the region.
If his death is confirmed, the organization’s leadership would be severely compromised.
