A Retired Russia General has warned that the world is closer to nuclear war than ever before in history in an interview with UK Sky News.
This follows U.S President Trump’s tweet stating that missiles were on “their way to Syria” and mocking Russia’s pledge to shoot them down.
Lt Gen Evgeny Buzhinsky warned that shooting down U.S missiles is the least that Russia would do. This syncs with remarks by Russian ambassador to Lebanon who said that Russia would not only shoot down U.S missiles in the event of an attack on Syria but would target their launch platforms.
Some of the prospective targets of a U.S military strike have Russian soldiers based at them and to further complicate matters Syria’s other ally Iran has vowed revenge for an earlier Israeli strike in the country that killed 7 of its troops.
Meanwhile, Russia forces have electronically jammed U.S drones and forced them to ground their fleet. Russian, Syrian, Iranian and Hezbollah force are making large scale preparations for a Western strike.
President Trump is set to make his final decision on a Syrian offensive following his Wednesday afternoon meeting with Defense Secretary James Mattis.
