Russian troops move into eastern Ukraine in a ‘peacekeeping’ mission

Russian troops have moved into eastern Ukraine under the pretense of a ‘peacekeeping’ mission.

Tanks and other military assets were seen in the Russian-backed separatist regions of Luhansk and Donetsk overnight, shortly after Russian President Vladimir Putin officially recognized the independence of these two regions.

Western analysts see this move as a major escalation and fear that a full-scale invasion of Ukraine might be imminent.
