RTÉ star Ryan Tubridy says he wants to restore listeners’ trust as he welcomes the release of a long-awaited report on his 2017-2019 earnings, reports Breaking News.

Tubridy, who was the station’s highest-paid employee before making the decision to leave his role as flagship host of the Late Late Show earlier this year, also did not appear on his daily morning radio show in the aftermath of the scandal.

Underestimating your income and securing a deal involving the host and business partner.

RTÉ has been embroiled in deep controversy since a story about flawed statistics surfaced in June when the government launched a management and culture review at the national broadcaster, reports Breaking News.

An initial performance review of the commercial system by auditor Grant Thornton found no wrongdoing by Tubridy.

On Wednesday, Grant Thornton’s second review also found that Tubridy or his agent Noel Kelly were not involved in a separate issue of RTÉ’s finance department that had been underreporting its income for three years.

In the national broadcaster’s regular publication on his highest-paid on-air talent, Tubrida’s earnings between 2017 and 2019 were announced at almost €120,000, reports Breaking News.

His earnings were reported by RTÉ as €491,667 in 2017, €495,000 in 2018 and €495,000 in 2019, while his fees were €511,667, €545,000 and €545,000 respectively.

In a statement released by the media relations firm, Tubridy said he welcomed the report’s findings – including not asking for a €120,000 fee for it at the end of 2020 and disagreeing with the way RTÉ had proposed his settlement.

Tubridy said: “I repeat my offer to publish the details of any future RTÉ contract. I am committed to re-establishing the confidence and trust of my colleagues and listeners, and I hope that any fair assessment of the findings of today’s report will help in this regard,” reports Breaking News.

He added: “I want to acknowledge the huge support that I have received in recent weeks from people across the country; many cards and letters, greetings on the street and words of support from people I bumped into meant an awful lot to me and I appreciate them all very much,” reports Breaking News.
