Ryanair are cutting 1 million more passenger seats in Spain next winter

Ryanair intends to scale back the number of flights operating to and from regional airports across Spain, in response to a fee hike implemented by Aena, the state-run airport authority, according to a report from Europa Press citing senior executive Eddie Wilson, reports RTE.

Wilson, who serves as the chief executive of Ryanair DAC—the largest of the Ryanair Group’s five subsidiaries—stated, according to Europa Press, that the airline will formally announce next Wednesday a reduction of around one million passenger seats at regional airports for the upcoming winter season.

Spain’s largest airline by passenger numbers, Ryanair had previously declared in January a cut of 800,000 seats from regional airports across the country for the summer period, reports RTE.

Aena, which has approved a 6.5% increase in airline charges for next year to help finance the development of Madrid and Barcelona’s main airports, did not immediately issue a response when asked for comment.
