Eamon Ryan’s prospects of leading the Green Party into a future Government under threat as Catherine Martin is backed for leadership challenge

Eamon Ryan’s chances of leading the Green Party into a future Government could be under threat as deputy leader Catherine Martin is being advised to challenge party leadership.

In a move that could potentially see Ryan being ousted as party leader, Martin has been backed by Lorna Bogue, Colette Finn, Oliver Moran and Liam Quaide to take over the reigns.

It is believed that a leadership challenge could occur as the party’s mandate states that a leadership challenge must occur within the first six months following a general election.

The potential leadership contest could come as blow to Ryan who is currently looking to secure a number of key policies with Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil in any potential future coalition Government.
