Gardai have confirmed that a man has sadly drown in County Mayo.
It’s understood that the man, aged in his 50s, was taken out of the sea at Westport Quay shortly after seven o’clock yesterday evening.
It’s believed the man had been swimming with a number of other people at a location known as ‘The Point’ when he got into difficulty.
Attempts were made to revive him when he was brought ashore but sadly he lost his life.
Gardai confirmed the tragic evening earlier today.
