Gardai are advising people to be on the lookout for a ‘sea captain’ scam that’s currently doing the rounds in Ireland.
The scam involves a fraudster posing as a ‘sea captain’, or similar type of role that spends a lot of time ‘away’, who establishes a romantic relationship with the target. The victim might be sent photos, videos, etc., and at some point, money and bank details will be requested. Needless to say, this leads to theft.
People are advised to report this type of scam immediately.
