There was some very sad news announced yesterday eevening as a woman who received a false negative on her smear test, had passed away.

According to the 221+ CervicalCheck Patient Support Group, Orla Church, of Elm Mount Avenue, Beaumont in Dublin, sadly passed away at the Mater Hospital in Dublin.

In a statement released on Twitter, the group said the following: “It is with great sadness that we mark the passing of one of our members, Orla Church.  She was a courgeous woman who campaigned on behalf of not only
@221plus.”

They added that they offer their deepest sympathies to Orla’s family and friends.

Orla came to the attentions of the nation after she highlighted her case on RTÉ’s Liveline programme back in April.

Tributes have poured in for the patient turned campaigner who fought to the end. Meanwhile Minister for Health Simon Harris and Leo Varadkar have been slammed over the enormity of the cervicalcheck scandal.
