We may still have a new government as the political squabbling continues, but those at the centre of the debate in forming a new Government are still collecting hefty salaries after a latest report uncovered by The Irish Independent found that all ministers currently in the Dail have collected a staggering €2.2m in just 56 days.
If that wasn’t bad enough the report also found that outgoing Ministers Alex White and James Reilly are still collecting salaries worth in the region of €10,000 each since the end of February.
Meanwhile eight junior ministers who also not elected back into office in February are scandalously claiming collective allowances totaling to €42,312. According to the report all ministers still receive a basic salary starting from the election date until a new a government is formed.
State dissolution guidelines from the Houses of the Oireachtas also state that: “All Ministers and Ministers of State continue to be paid their Ministerial salary by the Departments throughout the dissolution period. “The payment continues until the successor of the Taoiseach (who was in office on dissolution date) is appointed.”
