
The number of individuals experiencing homelessness and residing in emergency accommodation has reached a new peak of 15,286, according to the latest figures from last month. This data, released by the Department of Housing, also reveals that 4,603 children are currently homeless.
Compared to December 2024, last month saw an additional 422 people relying on emergency accommodation. The total of 15,286 marks a 13% rise from January 2024, while the number of homeless children has increased by 14% over the same period.
The report highlights some positive developments as well: in 2024, 3,384 adults moved out of emergency accommodation into tenancies, a 20% improvement over 2023. Additionally, 5,509 individuals were spared from homelessness last year through preventative measures.
