That the HSE is in state of decrepitude, nobody can deny. Years-long waiting lists, patients languishing on trolleys for days and nights of wanton chaos in A&E departments across the country, etc.
Now, an unannounced inspection of Coombe Hospital has found that its operating theaters are ‘unfit for purpose.’
Two of the surgery rooms are nearly five decades old, and a further two were opened over twenty years ago.
A report published after the inspection stated that the design and layout “neither meets the desirable standards of a modern surgical facility nor facilitates the implementation of effective infection prevention and control measures.”
There was a plethora of issues found, such as exposed wires, incorrect storing of sterile equipment, etc.
The report concludes by saying that the hospital must now work to rectify all the issues found.
