Although the overall spend is marginally down from 2015, the health service did unsurprisingly manage to spend a large sum on salaries for top ranking officials.

However the health service did fork out more on pension payments last year as they spent a total of €108.3m, marking a 9% rise on they €99.58m spent in 2015.
The increase in spending didn’t stop there however as a number of agency staff also received handsome salaries as the report found that the overall spend in this area rose by 7%, increasing from €259.29m to €277.33m.
