Schools appear set to remain open amid low temperatures and widespread freezing fog.
It is understood that the National Emergency Co-ordination Group met today to discuss the situation, and that one of the outcomes of the meeting was that essential services and facilities such as public transport and schools will continue as normal.
Ireland is in the grip of the first cold snap of the winter, with temperatures as low as -10C expected in places over the coming days.
