Scientists in Galway say that false widow spiders in Ireland are capable of injecting venom into victims.
They say that it happens mostly in bed or when spiders get caught in people’s clothing. Within minutes of a bite, people can see blistering, lumps, bumps and rashes that may require hospitalisation, including being put on a drip and antibiotics.
It’s understood that bites from the insects are creeping up in Ireland but that they generally only bite when they feel threatened. Scientists have setup a DNA database for doctors to register bites that they have treat. False widows are said to be 2 inches in width.
