A passenger who managed to bypass security at Frankfurt Airport sparked a major security alert at the facility this morning, causing flight delays locally and internationally.
It is understood that a passenger entered Terminal 1 without having obtained security clearance, but it remains unclear whether the person did it intentionally, and whether or not the passenger was carrying any dangerous items.
As a result of the breach, a large number of passengers had to be re-screened, causing major delays and disruption to flight schedules across Europe.
Frankfurt is Europe’s third busiest airport in terms of passenger numbers, behind Charles de Gaulle in Paris and Heathrow in London.
