The Senator made the announcement at Leinster House this afternoon.
Ms. Power was elected to the Seanad back in 2011. She was Fianna Fáil’s spokesperson on education and skills.
She will remain an independent Senator for the rest of her term, and has declared that she has no intention of joining any other political party.
The Senator had clashed with Micheal Martin in the past, mainly over the lack of female representation in Fianna Fail.
Following her announcement, Ms. Power said that Fianna Fail “lacks vision, courage, and leadership.”
