Tánaiste Simon Harris is scheduled to meet European Commissioner for Trade Maroš Šefčovič in Spain to continue discussions on EU-US trade relations, with a particular focus on the pharmaceutical industry, reports RTE.
Both officials had visited Washington earlier this month, and Mr Harris said that both Ireland and the European Commission remain dedicated to pursuing a negotiated resolution that would eliminate the need for tariffs.
The Tánaiste is in Valencia attending a summit of leaders from the European People’s Party (EPP), with which Fine Gael is affiliated, reports RTE.
At the event, Ireland’s former European Commissioner Mairead McGuinness is seeking election to one of ten vice-president roles within the EPP.
The EPP is made up of 84 parties and partners from 44 countries and includes the President of the European Commission, the President of the European Parliament, 12 EU heads of state or government, and 13 members of the European Commission.
It is also the largest political grouping in the European Parliament, comprising 188 MEPs from across the EU member states, reports RTE.
