Hurricane Kirk is expected to miss Ireland as it makes its way towards Europe in the coming days, but this week will still see a rather significant change in the weather, reports The Mirror.
As Hurricane Kirk avoids us to the south, temperatures will drop from highs of 18 degrees on Monday to lows of around freezing by Thursday. This is because of the advent of what meteorologist Alan O’Reilly describes as “much cooler air dragged down over Ireland for a few days.”
It appears to be a fairly easy October week on the weather front before the advent of colder temperatures heading into next weekend, following a weekend in which weather warnings of some kind affected much of the country, reports The Mirror.
According to Met Éireann’s prediction, Monday and Thursday will have sunny intervals with sporadic showers; Tuesday and Wednesday will see heavier clouds and a higher likelihood of rainstorms.
With a high of 18 degrees on Monday, the week will start off relatively mildly. However, the temperature will progressively decrease each day, peaking at 12 degrees on Thursday and falling as low as 1 degree on Thursday night.
These temperatures are expected to persist into the weekend, with Saturday predicted to be “cool and showery” and Sunday turning “cloudier with rain or showers.” Alan O’Reilly speculates that the predicted chilly weather “may not hang around for long,” reports The Mirror.
By the middle of the week, Hurricane Kirk is predicted to significantly affect Portugal, Spain, and especially France.
There will be intermittent, heavy rains mixed in with bright periods today. Rain will develop in the southeast late in the evening. Maximum temperatures in a mild to moderate south to southeast breeze range from 14 to 18 degrees.
Most places will get clear periods and sporadic showers in the early hours of tonight, although the southeast will see cloud cover and occasional downpours. Overnight, further rain is expected in the north and west. The lowest temperatures range from 7 to 12 degrees, accompanied by mild to moderate northeasterly breezes, reports The Mirror.
