United Airlines flight UA-880, a Boeing 767-300 model carrying over 207 passengers and a crew of 13 on board, was forced to divert to Shannon Airport in Ireland after encountering severe turbulence while flying over the Atlantic earlier today.

The aircraft was located about 500km south west of Ireland at the time, and the crew decided to land at the nearest airport.

The jet landed safely just before 6am this morning, and it is understood that fourteen passengers and two crew members were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

A spokesman for the airline said that the aircraft “experienced severe and unexpected turbulence”.
“Fourteen customers and two flight attendants have been taken to a local hospital. We wish these passengers and crew a quick recovery from their injuries.”
