Shameful: 22 children went missing from State care in one month as Dáil hears that one 14-yr-old girl was found locked in brothel

An astonishing 22 children went missing from State care during last month, reports The Mirror.

Aontú leader Peader Tóibín revealed the information in the Dáil, accusing Tusla of utilising unlicensed businesses to offer special emergency accommodation (SEA) for children in need.

He also related the story of how a criminal group kidnapped a 14-year-old just minutes after the youngster was reported to the child protection agency. A year later, she was discovered inside a locked brothel.

Deputy Tóibín said: ”A retired Judge, Dermot Simms, tried to raise these matters with the Minister but the Minister deleted his files, citing GDPR. A whistleblower tried to make a protected disclosure about unvetted care workers. Tusla tried to oppose that but the commissioner has now ruled Tusla must accept it,” reports The Mirror.

“One company was providing falsified vetting documents to Tusla and an internal Tusla report in July found that staff did not have up-to-date Garda clearances,” he added, reports The Mirror.

This specific firm is now under investigation by the Gardaí.
